  • What types of issues do you help clients with?

We provide support for a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress management, trauma, relationship issues, grief, substance abuse, dysregulated eating habits, and personal growth. Our facilitators tailor their approach to meet each client’s unique needs.

  • How do I know if psilocybin therapy is right for me?

Psilocybin therapy can benefit most adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or for whom other treatments have failed. If you’re experiencing persistent emotional challenges or simply want to better understand yourself, psilocybin therapy may be an ideal solution for sustained or even permanent change.

  • Is everything I share during sessions confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a core principle of our practice and also part of Oregon law. Everything you share is kept private, except in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if disclosure is required by law. Your trust and safety are our priorities. Your participation in psilocybin services in general is also private and up to you whom you share it with. Please note, leaving a Google review is public.

  • How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your personal circumstances. However, psilocybin therapy is unique in that a majority of the time, clients only need one session for significant relief (60-100% reduction in symptoms) lasting months or even years. Clients who are unprepared or heavily medicated may need two or three sessions to achieve this result.

  • Do you offer online or virtual sessions?

We offer online/virtual complementary consultations to discuss if psilocybin therapy is right for you. Our Preparation sessions (held before your Administration session) and Integration sessions (held afterwards) are also held virtually. Please note: Administration sessions must take place in person, onsite at a licensed Psilocybin Service Center (Clinic) and generally last 4-6 hours. Fractal Health works with a select hand-picked number of Centers who we deem to be safest, most comfortable, and operated most professionally.

FAQ

Addressing Common Concerns

  • Will I have a 'bad trip' during a legal psilocybin therapy experience? How can I minimize the chances of this?

We define a "bad trip" as an overwhelming fear or paranoia that has no therapeutic value. This is different from a challenging experience that is still productive. In a legal, regulated environment, 'bad trips' are extremely rare because the three reasons 'bad trips' happen in recreational settings are eliminated: clients receive precise dosing without the presence of other substances or adulterants, clients are in a calm setting that feels safe and nurturing, and clients are prepared and coached with clear intention & readiness. Some clients do have emotionally difficult journeys that ultimately prove therapeutic and healing. These clients often report afterward that they received exactly what they needed for their growth.

  • Is psilocybin addictive? I am sober and concerned about falling back into addictive patterns.

Psilocybin is not addictive because it works on the serotonin system rather than dopamine, which is the neurotransmitter primarily associated with addiction. Serotonin receptors have a built-in safety mechanism - they desensitize ("down regulate") when they sense excess serotonin. This means if someone tries to take psilocybin daily or multiple times per day as they would an addictive substance, they will feel little to no effect from psilocybin. In this sense, it has built-in anti-addictive properties. Finally, people typically seek out substances for addiction to escape pain or their problems. Psilocybin is an anti-dissociative, strongly urging users to actively cope with problems. Those seeking a numbing or escapism experience are unlikely to find it with psilocybin.

  • What if I don't feel much during my psilocybin session?

Underwhelming experiences are usually due to medication interference, recent substance use, or insufficient dosing. Your facilitator can help identify factors that may have reduced effectiveness and adjust approaches for future sessions if needed. Some clients are so chronically sleep deprived they fall asleep during their session. Facilitators can be given permission to wake clients, but keep in mind the neuroplastic effects in the brain are still happening in the weeks following a session even if a client falls asleep for a portion of it.

  • Can I do another session if the first one doesn't work as expected?

Yes, follow-up sessions can be scheduled after evaluating what factors may have contributed to disappointing results. Often, adjusting medication timing, increasing doses, or addressing preparation issues can significantly improve outcomes in subsequent sessions. Ethical providers will strongly encourage clients to let their nervous systems rest in between administration sessions and fully implement any insights received before seeking another session. Clients are warned against quick-succession psilocybin experiences due to the risk of escapism or perfectionism to achieve the 'perfect' trip. Sometimes when the nervous system is not ready for another big experience it can rebel, leading to an unproductive follow up session - this is why timing is crucial when considering follow-up sessions and client emotional readiness.

  • What reliably interferes with psilocybin therapy results?

The main factors that reduce effectiveness are multiple serotonin-affecting medications, heavy alcohol or cannabis use within days of the session, resistance to the therapeutic process, inadequate preparation, and unrealistic expectations about what psilocybin can accomplish without ongoing personal effort.

  • How is psilocybin different from other psychedelics like LSD and ayahuasca?

Psilocybin has several unique characteristics that make it particularly well-suited for therapeutic work. Though both psilocybin and LSD are serotonergic psychedelics, psilocybin has a shorter duration (4-6 hours) compared to LSD (8-12 hours), making it more manageable for therapeutic sessions. Additionally, LSD tends to have a more stimulating effect that can be less useful for therapeutic reflection and more suited to creativity. Several providers in our industry have noted that psilocybin seems to have a strong affinity for trauma processing work, whereas others do not as much.

Ayahuasca is a very bitter plant that often involves intense physical purging of both vomiting and diarrhea. Ceremonial traditions equate this to cleansing, but from a medical standpoint it is a symptom of toxicity and highly dose-dependent. Ayahuasca can also be dangerous when combined with certain medications, making it riskier to take, in particular in international settings without regulations that require proper screening.

Psilocybin is far gentler physically while still providing profound psychological insights. Psilocybin is also far easier and more accurate to dose, and it has the most robust clinical research supporting its therapeutic applications for mental health conditions. Oregon chose psilocybin specifically because of its safety profile, research backing, and suitability for regulated use.

FAQ

What To Expect In Your Session

  • What does a psilocybin therapy session feel like?

Psilocybin sessions are highly individualistic, but most clients report a heightened state of emotional openness and introspection that allows access to thoughts, memories, and insights that are difficult or even impossible to reach in normal consciousness. Sensations such as tingly fingers or mild lightheadedness can be felt around 15 minutes after taking the medicine and fully altered consciousness typically occurs about 45-60 minutes in, with the height of intensity at the 90-120 minute mark. By 3 to 4 hours, effects can be felt fading.

The experience feels different from recreational drug use due to the inner, intentional focus and lack of distractions such as friends, nature or concert music. Clients often process childhood memories, current challenges, or life transitions with great clarity and emotional access. While some moments can be challenging as old narratives dissolve or difficult memories arise to process, the overall arc tends toward healing and insight. The final couple hours of a journey are usually filled with intense calm, peace and gratitude.

  • Is psilocybin therapy guided by the facilitator, like talk therapy is guided by a therapist?

Psilocybin therapy is quite different from talk therapy. Rather than discussing problems verbally with a therapist, you're having an internal experience while a facilitator provides various forms of support, but only as needed and client-requested. The facilitator's role is to ensure your safety and comfort while allowing your mind to do its own therapeutic work. They may offer gentle guidance if you become anxious or confused, remind you of your intentions, or provide physical comfort, but they don't direct the content of your experience like a traditional therapist would. Doing so would be counterproductive.

The "therapy" happens internally through psilocybin's effects on your brain's neural networks, particularly the default mode network responsible for self-referential thinking. This allows you to access and process emotions, memories, and patterns in ways that talk therapy often cannot reach. The facilitator holds a safe and supportive presence for you while your consciousness explores often uncharted areas of the psyche.

Direct talking and coaching with your facilitator happens in preparation & integration sessions, before and after your psilocybin administration session. Some clients feel chatty during the last hour or two of their session (and some clients are verbally processing throughout their session, but these seldom require a response from the facilitator).

  • What does the day-of administration session timeline look like for psilocybin therapy?

Clients will generally arrive at the Center and greet their facilitator (often meeting in person for the first time) around 9-10am. They should eat a nourishing high-protein breakfast if at all possible, to sustain them through the day. They will get settled into the room, gather any supplies to do any setup as needed, get some music going, and do any pre-dosing discussion they wish with their facilitator.

By around 10am, clients are usually consuming their dose. The easiest dosing mechanism is with products that have already been finely powdered, allowing for easy stir into a drink of choice (tea, cocoa, or even orange juice). Some Centers only offer whole dried mushrooms and clients must eat or grind them themselves. Feel free to ask during intake if this matters to you.

Sessions will usually last 4 to 6 hours. Most clients feel ready to leave sometime between 3pm and 4:30pm. While most Centers close at 5pm, they will of course stay open later for clients who are not safe to leave the Center. Substantial extra staffing time may require additional client payment. Clients return to their lodging to relax, nourish themselves, shower etc that evening.

  • Can I bring a family member or support person with me to the session?

Oregon law does allow for this, but it must be approved with your facilitator and discussed ahead of time. Client support persons may not interfere with an administration session and are limited to supportive touch the same way a facilitator is, even if they are a romantic partner etc. The client and support person will also need to consent in writing to the presence of the additional person. There are pros and cons to having a family member or friend in the room which should be discussed carefully.

  • Can I purchase psilocybin at a service center and take it home with me?

No, under Oregon's regulations, all psilocybin must be purchased and consumed at licensed service centers - you cannot take any products home, including any unused 'booster' dose. This is a key safety and legal requirement of the program. All psilocybin products must remain on the premises of licensed facilities and be consumed under professional supervision. This ensures proper dosing, safety monitoring, and compliance with state regulations. It is a common misconception that psilocybin service centers are similar to marijuana retail outlets, but this is not true. They should be thought of as mental health centers, not retail drug outlets.

FAQ

Eligibility & Who Can Access

  • Do I need to live in Oregon to receive psilocybin therapy?

No, Oregon has no residency requirement. Adults 21+ from anywhere in the world can access Oregon's legal psilocybin therapy program. Many clients travel from other states and countries for treatment. Most people need 3-4 days in Portland including travel days - arriving the day before their session and leaving 1-2 days afterward.

  • Is there an age limit for legal psilocybin therapy in Oregon?

You must be at least 21 years old - this is a strict legal requirement with no exceptions. There's no upper age limit, though older adults may require additional medical screening to ensure cardiovascular safety and review potential medication interactions. We've successfully worked with clients ranging from 21 to 78 years old.

  • Do I need to be in therapy or receive a referral?

No referral, medical diagnosis, or prescription is required. You can directly contact licensed facilitators to begin the screening process. You don't need to be in traditional therapy, though many clients find it complementary to their psilocybin work. Oregon's program is available for any intention you feel would be helpful - from addressing specific mental health challenges to general wellness and personal development.

  • Who is a good candidate for psilocybin therapy?

Good candidates include people with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, prior trauma & adverse life events, or substance use challenges, as well as individuals seeking personal growth, spiritual exploration, or life transitions support. The most important factors are emotional readiness, realistic expectations, current life stability, and commitment to the full process including integration work. Adults who can engage with their inner world, display traits of honesty and courage, and are willing to surrender to the experience tend to have the best outcomes.

  • Who is not a good candidate for psilocybin therapy?

Beyond the safety contraindications outlined elsewhere on this site, poor candidates include people who don't take the therapeutic process seriously or aren't committed to preparation and integration work. Those expecting psilocybin to be a miracle cure that fixes every area of their life or achieves "perfection" often experience disappointment. Similarly, individuals chasing ego experiences, bragging rights about high doses, or treating it as entertainment rather than therapy rarely achieve meaningful results.

People who are completely disconnected from their emotional world and resist self-reflection tend to struggle with psilocybin's introspective nature. Those who've never engaged in any inner work, therapy, or self-examination may find the experience overwhelming or unproductive. Additionally, individuals who believe their facilitator is responsible for fixing or healing them, rather than understanding their own active role in the process, often have poor outcomes. Psilocybin therapy requires willingness to be vulnerable, face difficult emotions, and take personal responsibility for growth and change.

  • Am I disqualified if I take anti-depressant medication?

No, taking SSRI or SNRI antidepressants does not disqualify you from psilocybin therapy. It is estimated at least least 50% of Oregon's clients are on these medications and most have excellent results. You may need a higher psilocybin dose (typically 1.3x to 2x normal amount) to achieve therapeutic effects, but this is easily manageable. Your facilitator will review your specific medications and recommend an adjusted psilocybin dose accordingly.

FAQ

What To Expect:
Typical Results & Outcomes

  • How many psilocybin therapy sessions do I need to see results?

This will depend on the severity and nature of your symptoms, but most clients achieve significant results from a single session, with benefits lasting 6-12 months or longer. Some people with treatment-resistant conditions (in particular, major depressive disorder, alcohol abuse and OCD) may benefit from 2-3 sessions spaced apart, but this can be determined individually based on response to the initial session results. Clients in particular with general anxiety, grief, post-traumatic syndrome, or who are seeking clarity in life decisions tend to do exceptionally well with a single session.

  • How long do the effects of psilocybin therapy last?

While a small subset of clients feel like not much has changed by 1-2 months post-session, most clients report sustained improvements lasting 6-12 months or longer from a single session. Some benefits, particularly personality enhancements and perspective shifts, can be permanent. However, maintaining results often requires ongoing integration work and lifestyle implementation of insights. A more intense experience is correlated with length of benefit, but there is also a tip-over point at which a stronger dose is harmful rather than helpful. This is why dosing must be considered carefully and curated for each client's individual factors and needs.

  • Will cannabis or alcohol use impact my therapy results?

Yes, both substances significantly impact results but in different ways. Heavy cannabis use "turns down the volume" on serotonin neurotransmitters, often requiring higher doses for therapeutic effect. Alcohol disrupts all neurotransmitter systems, keeps the nervous system in a chronic state of forced dysregulation, spikes cortisol, can damage nerves, and interferes with emotional processing. We recommend abstinence periods before sessions to optimize outcomes - please see greater detail in our Eligibility section which discusses substance use in detail.

  • Can I bring a family member or support person with me to the session?

Oregon law does allow for this, but it must be approved with your facilitator and discussed ahead of time. FAQ

Logistics & Planning FAQ

  • How far in advance do I need to book a psilocybin therapy session?

We encourage clients not to approach booking a psilocybin therapy session like they would a massage, with little thought given to preparation or readiness. Most clients book about 3 to 5 weeks out. Low-risk clients can be accommodated within 1 week if absolutely necessary, and clients are also welcome to book out as far as six months if they have specific life or work situations to plan around (or are traveling with better weather etc). Be aware that preparation with a facilitator generally needs to happen within 90 days to ensure information discussed remains fresh and relevant. Clients are still welcome to place deposits for administration session dates further out.

  • How long do I need to be in Portland/Oregon for psilocybin therapy? Do I need time off work?

It is important to recognize that you do not need to be in Portland for the duration of an entire program including preparation and integration. Those are typically handled virtually via video conferencing. Usually, clients will arrive in Oregon the day before their administration session, allowing for time to settle in and have a nice dinner. Then they will leave either late afternoon the next day, or sometime the 2nd day after their administration session. For example, flying Thursday and Sunday for a Friday administration session.

Though it is technically feasible to return to work the day after a session, we recommend taking 1-2 days for rest, relaxation, reflection and self-care. Avoid stress and heavy to-do lists during this time! Be aware the full neuro-plastic window is about 3 weeks. This is the amount of time it takes the brain to re-organize itself after a positively disruptive psilocybin session.

  • Does Oregon have a waiting list for accessing psilocybin therapy services?

There is no waiting list - most Oregon psilocybin therapy providers are taking new clients and in fact up to 98% of a provider's client base are new clients, simply because psilocybin therapy works so well. It is not the same as talk therapy where a therapist may have an ongoing 'client base'. Our industry relies on new clients, which is a good thing. Even in severe cases, it is rare for a client to need more than three sessions.

  • Is psilocybin therapy expensive?

Psilocybin therapy sometimes has a perception of being 'expensive' for a few different reasons, but when taken into consideration hours involved and outcomes from a single session, it is actually less expensive than many other options.

Some people compare professional psilocybin therapy to simply growing mushrooms or buying them from illegal sources. It is true that mushrooms themselves are not expensive. However, the cost of psilocybin therapy is almost entirely an investment in professional services, not for mushroom product. It is the cost of professional time and skill, licensing, compliance, safety protocols, physical space to conduct the journey, support staff, etc. Thus comparing the service of psilocybin therapy to buying mushrooms and hosting a DIY journey at home is really comparing apples to oranges. Many 'underground' facilitators charge comparable rates to legal, licensed facilitators - this is a service charge, not a product charge.

One reason it can be viewed as costly is due to the different service structure. Unlike talk therapy, psilocybin therapy must be paid as a bundle of hours, given its nature. In terms of cost, a psilocybin therapy program is roughly equivalent to pre-paying for a bundle of 10 to 12, one-hour therapy appointments with a licensed counselor. In terms of cost effectiveness, however, the majority of psilocybin therapy clients make statements such as 'I feel like one afternoon was equivalent to five years of talk therapy'. Psilocybin therapy is highly effective with proper commitment and participation by clients.

  • Can I make payments toward psilocybin therapy to make it more accessible?

Not all providers in Oregon accept monthly payment plans, but some do, including Fractal Health. Some providers also offer sliding scale limited discounts for low-income individuals. Please inquire with your preferred provider for their financial and payment policies. HSA and FSA funds are typically accepted for these services as well.

Beyond Price: What Determines Your Ultimate Outcome

Price isn’t arbitrary — it reflects both the quality of care you’ll receive and a provider’s confidence in the value they deliver. Lower prices often signal corners being cut: less experienced facilitators, rushed screening, minimal preparation, and a focus on volume over safety and outcomes.

Here's what separates professional care from bare-bones option.

Provider Experience & Expertise

Oregon sets no minimum requirements for facilitator training or experience. Our facilitators are highly credentialed professionals with extensive psilocybin practice and a proven track record of sound judgment.

Comprehensive Safety Screening & Consult Time

While we aren’t a medical clinic, knowledgeable safety screening is essential to prevent adverse outcomes. We take time to get to know every client — ensuring the right facilitator and the right program fit from the start.

Consistent, Thorough Preparation & Integration

Budget providers often minimize prep and skip integration to reduce costs. We include multiple preparation sessions and structured integration support because investing in these phases consistently leads to better outcomes.

Professional Practice Model

Our facilitators don’t work in isolation. Every provider has team support, peer consultation, and collaborative oversight — ensuring consistent quality and accountability you won’t find with independent operators.

Sustainable Client Load = Personalized Care

Providers offering rock-bottom prices rely on high client volume to stay afloat, which often leaves clients feeling rushed or overlooked. We intentionally limit our caseload so every client receives genuine attention and personalized care.

Payment Plans for Accessibility

We’re the only Oregon provider offering flexible, interest-free payment plans — because access to care shouldn’t require compromising on quality. Premium care can still fit within most clients’ budgets.
